Who said going first was bad in TCG Pocket? Exeggutor ex is one of the few Pokémon ex with a damaging attack that costs only 1 Energy—and boy, what an attack.
Tropical Force deals an average of 60 damage, making it a force to be reckoned with as early as turn 2. It’s capable of knocking out a Basic Pokémon quickly and putting you ahead in the race. Its fantastic bulk for a Stage 1 means your opponent will likely waste multiple turns or resources trying to remove this threat, especially since it can be healed with Erika.
Its impressive 160 HP bulk allows Exeggutor ex to remain on the field for multiple turns in the early game, where it can quickly swing the momentum. Even in the late game, only a few select Pokémon are capable of one-shotting it.

In a fast-paced metagame, Exeggutor ex is a very good card that quickly aligns damage while maintaining high survivability, especially when boosted by Erika. Including more than two Exeggutor cards adds consistency, as the regular version shares the same strengths as the ex version: decent damage output and tanky bulk.
The Bellsprout line complements these characteristics, with all stages capable of attacking on curve for quick and efficient damage (Victreebel can even attack on curve if you went first).
As Exeggutor decks struggle in the late game against tankier decks, Victreebel helps secure kills with its Fragrance Trap ability, pulling a chosen Benched Pokémon into the Active Spot to finish it off. This is the only effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket similar to Boss’s Orders, one of TCG’s best staples.

This deck is similar to another coinflip-based deck, Marowak ex Dugtrio. The core principle remains the same: decently strong Pokémon with low-cost attacks that involve coin flips, capable of high rolling and closing out games quickly. Tropical Swing, unlike Bonemerang, still deals damage even if all the flips result in tails.
While Exeggutor ex is better when going first (as you can evolve Exeggcute and attach its first Energy by turn 2), if you’re going second, it’s usually optimal to bring Pinsir to the Active Spot. Ideally, you prepare another Pinsir while setting up Exeggutor ex for the most efficient point mapping.
Another advantage of this deck is that it’s budget-friendly—you can obtain most of the cards from a single good pack, and even get a free Exeggutor ex if you started the game by opening the Charizard pack.
Weaknesses
Exeggutor ex’s only attack relies on a coin flip, with the inherent risk of missing out on 40 damage—potentially the difference between a win and a loss.
Its strength lies in the early game, but Exeggutor ex becomes less effective in the late game, where it struggles against Stage 2 Pokémon ex and cannot one-shot most Pokémon with a heads.
- Grass-type Pokémon, including Exeggutor ex, currently have few type advantages. In contrast, the other coin-flip deck (Marowak ex) has more favorable attacks against L and most C Pokémon
