Was a Basic Pokémon ex all that needed? With the release of Mythical Island, Celebi ex is already positioning itself as a top contender of the metagame. Boasting a respectable 130 HP, Celebi ex’s Powerful Bloom attack flips coins equal to the number of Energy attached to it, dealing 50 damage per heads. While reminiscent of Marowak ex’s Bonemerang, Celebi ex has the advantage of not needing to evolve.
The attack truly blossoms when supported by Serperior’s Jungle Totem ability, which doubles the value of all Energy. Not only it means that Celebi can attack with just a single attack, it also can deal up to 200 damage with 2 Energy.
This potential for damage growth makes it one of the most threatening attackers in the format, as adding more Energy consistently increases its power and reliability.
Celebi ex Serperior - Stock decklist
The deck is still being refined as players experiment to optimize its performance. Alongside the usual staples, Dhelmise can find its place as a one, even two-of. Dhelmise resists Pikachu ex’s Circle Circuit (unless boosted by Giovanni) and serves as a strong utility attacker. Its Energy Whip attack benefits from Jungle Totem’s boost as soon as it has 2 attached. In the early game, Dhelmise acts as a durable damage sponge, while later it transitions into a reliable one-point attacker.
Celebi ex - Exeggutor ex variant
Exeggutor ex has amazing qualities that made it one of the prime type Pokémon during the Genetic Apex format. This variant leverages Exeggutor ex’s hefty bulk and early damage output to handle faster decks like Pikachu ex while setting up Celebi ex or evolving the Snivy line into Serperior.
Exeggutor ex’s high retreat cost is less of an issue thanks to Serperior’s Jungle Totem, which makes retreating cheaper by doubling Energy. Combined with X Speed, it can retreat with just one energy, just in time to deny your opponent points.
This variant often includes 2 Erika, making it even harder for your opponent to claim points. Adding the early game control element that the base engine tends to lack, this variant is one of the most promising in the early Mythical Island meta.
Weaknesses
- Like all attacks relying on coin flips, Celebi ex’s damage is unreliable. Its highs can be incredible, but its lows can feel disastrous.
- The deck’s Pokémon generally have low HP, with most sitting at 130 HP or below. Until Serperior evolves, the entire Snivy line is vulnerable to Pikachu ex’s Circle Circuit, and no Pokémon in the deck can survive a Psydrive from Mewtwo ex.
