Wonder Pick is one of the core features of Pokémon TCG Pocket. It allows players to select one card at random from a booster pack opened by another player, offering a chance to get an extra copy of one of the cards from that pack for free. Players can choose which player’s pack to pick from, depending on its contents. Once selected, the cards in the chosen pack are shuffled face down, and the player draws one at random.
Many questions arose about this system: Is it possible to use Wonder Pick from every pack? Can we strategize to pick from the pack we want?… Here are the findings from our investigations.
Basics
We call Wonder Pick Screen the panel from which you can see all possible Wonder Picks.
Some Wonder Pick can include items instead of cards.
Cards of some rarities are not included in Wonder Picks (read below).
Apart from the standard Wonder Picks, there are other varieties that appear during events:
- Bonus Picks: You can try to obtain a Promo card or currency (like Event Shop Tickets, Wonder Hourglasses, etc.) without using any Wonder Stamina.
- Rare picks: You can try to get a rarer card from a selection of cards within an expansion.
- Chansey Picks: You can try to obtain exclusive Promo cards.
Which Packs are Shared in the Wonder Pick?
- Packs containing a or a card won’t be shared.
- A Rare Pack (sometimes called God Pack) can be shared as long as it doesn’t contain any or card.
Information about the content of the Pack Board is currently scarce. Its depth is unknown: we suppose it takes around the last dozen packs opened by the player and its management is unknown. It is uncertain whether every pack a player opens joins the Pack Board or not.
Packs are NOT removed from the Pack Board once shared; the same pack can be sent to multiple friends, and different packs can be shared simultaneously.
Packs shared have no regard for how recently they have been opened; so far, we’ve confirmed 3-day-old packs can still be shared.
Wonder Stamina: the currency for Wonder Picks
The currency used for Wonder Picking is the Wonder Stamina. 1 Wonder Stamina recharges naturally every 12 hours, with a maximum capacity of 5 at any given time. You can recover Wonder Stamina by using a Wonder Hourglass, which reduces the waiting time by one hour and Poké Gold, which reduces it by two hours. Both can only be used if they fully replenish at least 1 Wonder Stamina.
The amount of Wonder Stamina to spend for a Wonder Pick vary depending on the rarity of the rarest card (read below).
What are the probabilities to see a rare card in a Wonder Pick?
The chance for a pack to appear in a Wonder Pick depends on the rarity of the rarest card in that pack. The probabilities mimic the chance to open these same cards in a booster pack once we remove the Immersive and Crown cards from the equation.
There is however a big nuance: Special Art Rare (rainbow-bordered illustration card) and Super Rare (CGI full art) cards, although identical in terms of pack-opening probabilities, have separate rates when it comes to their chance to appear in a Wonder Pick.
Rarity of the rarest card of the pack | Chance to see the pack in the Wonder Pick screen | Cost in Wonder Stamina |
---|---|---|
Uncommon | 75% | |
Rare | 12.5% | |
Double Rare | 4.5% | |
Art Rare | 6.75% | |
Special Art Rare | 0.875% | |
Super Rare | 0.375% |
Wonder Pick Screen mechanics
Every player has a unique Wonder Pick screen, initially made of 16 random packs from 16 random players. Once you start adding friends to your friend list, a maximum of 4 slots will be dedicated to your friends’ packs. Friends will take a “friend slot” even if they’re unfriended after or deleted their account, until their pack expires.
The Wonder Pick Board not only displays the current packs available to pick from, but also Expired packs (those you missed while they were on your board) and Already Picked packs (packs you’ve previously picked from). Your board can hold up to 4 expired packs.
Players can still pick from a pack in the Expired Queue by using a Rewind Watch in addition to the regular cost for this pack.
Pack Timing and Expiration
Packs that join the board are assigned a random time between 1 and 4 hours in increments of 30 minutes before they expire. This time is randomly generated and completely unrelated to how recently the pack was opened.
The Expired Queue will permanently kick from your Wonder Pick Board the oldest pack that has joined it.
The Already Picked packs don’t grant any additional slots but instead acts like a “tag” to packs in your board. Already Picked packs still have their timer ticking down internally, joining the expired queue when it reaches zero.
Chansey Pick
Chansey pick is a special kind of Wonder Pick that appears in some events. There’s a notification on the Home screen when a Chansey Pick is available.
They include promotional cards related to the event, and come with a fixed Wonder Stamina fee. There’s a 2.5% chance for them to appear on each refresh: pay attention to the notification so to not miss them!
Bonus Pick
Bonus Pick is a special kind of Wonder Pick that appears in some events.
They include various items including some related to the event (Promotional cards, Event tickets…). They come at no cost and have a 20% chance to appear after another Wonder Pick expires.

If you’re hunting a specific card in the Wonder pick, does it matter which card you pick out of the 5? i.e. is a specific card more or less likely than 20% to end up in it’s original spot before shuffling?
I use screen recorder to save the pattern, than i use inshot to save the video in slow motion and watch it on VLC with 0,25 speed. It is really hard to follow but i have about 70% susses rate after some practice.
What sample size did you use?
How often does a new wonder pick appear in a shop?
Whenever another Wonder Pick expires
I only have 12 active wonder picks available while my friend has 15. Is that because he has more friends than me? What precisely dictates the amount of picks you get?
It’s random, or at least we haven’t figured out yet how it was defined
