You may have noticed that foreign cards sometimes appear in packs on your Wonder Pick screen or after you got one a Wonder Pick. This isn’t a bug!
Pokémon TCG Pocket is available in 9 languages: English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish. Each card retains its original language, giving players the unique opportunity to collect up to nine different versions of each card.
In this article, we’ll explain the language system in TCG Pocket and share some related tips and tricks.
What determines the language of a card?
When you first download and launch the app, you’ll be prompted to set your Language. This initial choice determines the language of your first packs. Later, you can change the language anytime by going to Menu > Other > Settings > System. Changing the language here will affect the language of any new cards you open, and it will make you return to the Title Screen.
From there, every pack you open will be in the current language used by your app. You can also view the different language versions of each individual card in My Cards (see the video tutorial).
A card never changes language once it’s acquired. This is also true for cards received from other players thanks to Wonder Picking (and soon Trading). But don’t worry: when you play or display it, the game will show it in the language you’ve selected in your system settings. So you won’t need to learn eight new languages to understand your cards in play!
You can also customize the language on display boards by clicking the Flair button, then selecting Language.
For packs sent to the Gift Box (like promo packs), the card language depends on the language setting when you claim the pack—not the language setting when you earned the pack in battle or otherwise.
Flair and languages
Flair cosmetics add a special polish to your cards, adding visual effects for display or in battle (see our guide).
Flairs apply to all versions of a card, so a flair crafted using a card in one language will be available for all language versions of that card. When crafting a flair, you can choose which language version of the card will be consumed (see video below).
